This is the second part in the Colors of Israel series in the months before Israel’s 75th birthday! Colors of Israel will showcase multiculturalism in Israeli society and the diversity in the modern state of Israel. In each session, we will meet a different Israeli speaker sharing their personal and unique story! Our speaker is Ethiopian-Israeli, Sigal Kanotopsky.

Through Sigal’s life story, we will deal with issues related to Aliyah (immigration) and Ethiopian assimilation in a new society, equality in Israeli society, racism, discrimination, and Jewish identity. We will conclude with a Q&A session.

Born in a small village in Ethiopia’s rural north, she made aliya at the age of five, having walked three months to meet the flight that took her to Israel, to which she immigrated with her family as a child. As an adult, Sigal is recognized as a leader in social change, receiving awards such as the Rappaport Prize for women leading breakthroughs, and selected as one of the 50 most socially influential leaders by the Yediot Aharonot national newspaper for 2018. Today she is the Director of The Jewish Agency in the North East U.S. Region.
