In form it is new, but in purpose very ancient. Our aim is mentioned in the First book of Kings: “Judah and Israel shall dwell securely, each man under his own vine and fig tree, from Dan to Beersheba.”

The FIG: Cafe and Bakery features a fresh selection of soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts prepared daily by Le Cordon Bleu trained, Chef Dan Kachel. “We wanted to create a place that is a warm and welcoming community gathering spot offering, the lunch crowd, options that are innovative while still classic.” says Drew Diamond, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation. The neighborhood has been in need of lunch offerings beyond the fast food/fast casual options currently available.

Fashioned after a street cafe, The Fig cafe and bakery is located on the Zarrow Campus in the lobby of the Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center at 2021 East 71st Street (between Lewis and Riverside Drive). The cafe is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m until 2 p.m. Take-out service is available.

HAVA NAGILA: THE MOVIE @ CIRCLE CINEMA – 12 S. LEWIS

JUNE 16, SUNDAY
NOON

The Jewish Federation of Tulsa in cooperation with Circle Cinema presents “Hava Nagila”: The Movie. It is instantly recognizable – musical shorthand for anything Jewish, a happy party tune that you dance to at weddings, bar mitzvahs and even at Major League Baseball games. It conjures up wistful smiles, memories of generations past…and no shortage of eye rolling. But as audiences will discover in Hava Nagila: The Movie, the song is much more than a tale of Jewish kitsch and bad bar mitzvah fashions. It carries with it an entire constellation of history, value and hopes for the future. In its own believe-it-or-not way, Hava Nagila encapsulates the Jewish journey over the past 150 years. It also reveals the power of one song to express and sustain identity, to transmit lessons across generations and to bridge cultural divides and connect us all on a universal level.

Tickets can be pre-ordered online or purchase them at the box office the day of the show. $7 Adults, $6 Circle Cinema Members.

DECEMBER 15, SATURDAY
7:00 PM
12 year old Bernie is ignored by his own family. His obsessive compulsive father Manny is concerned about the giant supermarket opening opposite his grocery shop, and his mother Esther, is too busy worrying about Manny and Alvie, Bernie’s mischievous older brothers. With his upcoming Bar Mitzvah, however, Bernie believes he can finally gain the attention he deserves. He begins to plan the perfect ceremony and reception, where everyone assembled will acknowledge his new status as a man. Unfortunately for Bernie, things do not quite go according to plan. It’s the summer of ’66 and the country’s soccer team makes it to the World Cup Final – set for the very same day. With England caught up in the games. Bernie is in danger of being overlooked again on his big day. Based on the real life experience of the director, Sixty Six is a charming comedy with heart-warming qualities reminiscent of Billy Elliott and Love Actually. Cost for the program is $5.00/Members, $7.00/Not yet Members. Please RSVP to 918-495-1100 by Dec. 13.
