The Jewish Federation of Tulsa announces the opening of FIG, cafe and bakery named in homage to Theodor Herzl’s famous quote depicting the future Jewish homeland: “We are a commonwealth. In form it is new, but in purpose very ancient. Our aim is mentioned in the First book of Kings: “Judah and Israel shall dwell securely, each man under his own vine and fig tree, from Dan to Beersheba.”
FIG: Cafe and Bakery features a fresh selection of soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts prepared daily by Le Cordon Bleu trained, Chef Dan Kachel. “We wanted to create a place that is a warm and welcoming community gathering spot offering, the lunch crowd, options that are innovative while still classic.” says Drew Diamond, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation. The neighborhood has been in need of lunch offerings beyond the fast food/fast casual options currently available.
Fashioned after a street cafe, FIG Cafe and Bakery is located on the Zarrow Campus in the lobby of the Charles Schusterman Jewish Community Center at 2021 East 71st Street (between Lewis and Riverside Drive). The cafe is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m until 2 p.m. Take-out service is available. The bakery is open Fridays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
